Our Beginning

The City of Refuge was founded in September 1991 with a total of four members at the Seek and Say Daycare Center.  In December of 1991 it moved to 3801 E. Martin Luther King to what became known as the little brown house.  Both Buildings were so generously loaned to us by Brother and Sister Brown parents of the Sister Amanda Allen.  There were still only a few members and even less money, but great faith in God.  In the little brown house many miracles, were wrought, many were saved and delivered.  Some remained with the ministry and some went in search of their shepherd.  God called one home.  In the midst of the rodents, heat, and other adversities, God continued to grow us and bless us with His annointing.  Pastor Allen saw the vision for growth of the City of Refuge.  God led him to 1155 Springdale Road and told him that this was the new location of the Church.  They were asking ,000 for the 3/4 acre of land.  Yeah right, we didn't have definately not even close to what they were asking.  However, Pastor Allen held on to faith and the promises of God.  God told him to march around the property and rejoice on it.  Later the realtor called to say the property was up for bids.  Pastor Allen's mother told him she had she would give the church.  Because of Pastor Allen's faith and obedience to God, he arranged so that we were the only ones to bid on the property and it was ours for the sum of .  In June of 1995, thanks are to God and the diligent work of Deacon James City, we moved into our new building.  Again God blessed and added to the church and the maturity of those already there.  Again God called one home.

Presently, we are yet experiencing the awesome power of God.  Despite of the adversity, pain and attacks, God has seen us through and is with us for no weapon shall be able to prosper.  This is God's church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  God is doing a great work in the lives of the members of the City of Refuge.  We currently have a dynamic children's ministry and youth choir.  God is growing and planting new souls in the ministry and we are reaching out in the community letting our presence be known.  Thousands can see our television ministry and web page address.  We are consistantly working diligently toward our Pastor's vision for the City of Refuge.

Pray for the City of Refuge Pastor and members that we will forever remain encouraged completing the great work that God has set before us.  We believe that God did not bring us this far to leave us.  We are the City that sits on the hill that cannot be hid.  If God be for us, He's more than the world against us.
